“We are excited to be the venue partner of the first NORTH Nordic Food Festival,” says VP of Culinary and Pastry Arts at The International Culinary Center, Chef Candy Argondizza. “The rise in popularity and prominence of the cooking from this region is hard to ignore especially with NOMA, Maaemo, Aska and of course one of the first to bring this type of cooking to the US, Aquavit. We are hoping this is just the first event in a much larger movement to educate people on this style of cooking.”
I’m stoked to hear about the Nordic food trend happening in one of the world’s hardest restaurant regions to break through to, New York City! By what I heard from my sources, Scandinavian food is very hot in the gourmet food circuit right now. This festival will be the first of its kind in New York, and all of North America for that matter. I know it’s in the U.S., but Toronto is close enough that you can go there pretty easily.
There will be a lot of tasting menus from the various regions and cooking classes by top chefs of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland! I am thrilled that this is becoming prominent in North America. Hopefully it will come to Toronto and the rest of Canada soon. You can read several articles on North’s website about Swedish cuisine.
